God Loves Us

Based on I John 4:7

"Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. "

God is the source of love because God is love. Our love is only an extension of God’s love for us.  Romans 5:8 states, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”  God demonstrated his love for us in that we are saved from our sins by Christ death on Calvary’s cross.  Jesus became a propitiation for us.  1 John 2:1-2 states,” [2] My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: [2] And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”  This love for us is unconditional just as a Mother’s love is for her children.  No matter how much we have messed up, God is their through his son Jesus Christ to redeem us from our sin.  His love, mercy and grace towards us exceeds our sin. We must obey the Gospel in faith to receive this redemption however nothing can stop nor deter God’s love for us. 

Romans 8:35-39 states,

“[35] Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? [36] As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. [37] Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. [38] For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, [39] Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

The true test of our Christian faith is love.  If we are of God then we must demonstrate the love of God to others and if we are not of God we don’t nor are we capable of demonstrating the love of God.  It is a test of our Christian faith, our love for God and one another.
