A Life Built Upon Principles

What principles are you living your life by?
Jesus addresses this very question in Luke 6:46–49:
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them—I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”
In verse 46, Jesus asks a penetrating question: Why call Me Lord if you do not do what I say? In essence, He is saying, Why honor Me with your words while dishonoring Me with your actions? Words without corresponding action are meaningless.
Jesus reinforces this truth in verses 47–48. He explains that anyone who hears His words and puts them into practice is like a person who builds a house on a solid rock. Such a foundation cannot be easily shaken by external forces.
Through this analogy, Jesus teaches us that obedience creates stability. When you don’t just listen to His Word but live it, you are building your life on a solid foundation. When your life is rooted in godly principles and aligned with God’s Word, you are able to stand firm in the face of obstacles, hardships, and tribulations. The storms of life may come, but they will not move you.
A life built on principles has clear direction. It is rooted and grounded, guided by conviction rather than emotion. Principles provide stability when feelings fluctuate and circumstances change.
When you live according to the principles of Jesus Christ, your life is established on a foundation that cannot be destroyed.
