Jesus Is The Door

Today’s devotion we will consider the topic, Jesus Is The Door.  We will discuss these points:

  • Jesus is the door

  • Jesus is salvation

  • Jesus is the Door to an abundant life

John 10:7–10 states:

“[7] Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. [8] All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. [9] I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. [10] The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Jesus Is the Door

Jesus reinforces the parable He shared in verses 1–6 by affirming Himself as the Door. We must clearly understand that He is the access way to God and salvation. He had spoken about the door of the sheepfold, but now He moves one step further and says that He is the Door of the sheep.

The Lord Jesus is the Door for those coming out of Israel into the church. He is the Door for those trapped in sin, those stuck in worldliness, and those bound by religious traditions and denominations. Jesus Christ is the Door for both Jew and Gentile. He is the Door of salvation. Freedom to go in and out and find pasture represents the liberty of the children of God in Christ Jesus.

Illustrating this truth, the Jewish leaders had just cast the blind man out of the synagogue out of the sheepfold. Immediately, the Lord Jesus came to that man and revealed Himself to him. When the Lord revealed Himself, He became the Door for that man. The man had been brought out of the sheepfold and to the Lord Jesus Christ to follow Him. This is the second great truth our Lord is declaring in this chapter.

Jesus is the Door, and Peter undeniably asserts this same fact in Acts 4. Acts 4:10–12 states:

“[10] Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. [11] This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. [12] Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Jesus Is Salvation

Here again Jesus asserts His authority as the Door. This time He indicates that those who enter are saved. Jesus is declaring that salvation is found in Him alone.

Jesus further proclaims this truth in John 14:6:

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Jesus is salvation, and salvation is in Jesus.

Revelation 3:20 also states:

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

This gives us a beautiful picture of the Lord Jesus standing at the heart’s door. He knocks, but He does not force His way in. He has done everything necessary to bring salvation within our reach, but each person must choose whether to open the door and receive Him. Jesus patiently awaits our decision to follow Him, for He is the access to God and salvation.

Jesus Christ is the Way. He is the only Way. He is the way out of sin and the way into salvation. He has come to bring us abundant life. Will you follow Jesus?

Jesus Is the Door to an Abundant Life

Simply put, you have not fully lived life unless you have entered through the Door, and Jesus says that He is that Door. The abundant life is only accessible through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

John 3:16 states:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

In this text, there are two important truths we must note. First, we must be born again. Second, the Son of Man had to be lifted up. These truths are connected. It took the death and resurrection of Christ, He had to be lifted up. Because He bore our penalty, the Spirit of God can regenerate us. We must be born again in order to experience life more abundantly.

Conclusion

Jesus did not merely point to the Door He declared that He is the Door. Outside of Him there is danger, emptiness, and destruction, but through Him there is salvation, security, peace, and abundant life. The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came to restore, redeem, and give life everlasting. The question is not whether the Door exists but the question is whether you will enter. Today the Door of grace still stands open. Do not remain outside in sin, fear, or bondage. Come to Jesus, enter by faith and obedience, and discover the life only He can g
