In a world filled with problems, mankind faces challenges in every dimension of life. We struggle at home within our families experiencing generational divides between parents and children, and even grandparents and grandchildren. We face societal pressures shaped by cultural perceptions and shifting values.
Yet in moments like these, God sometimes allows disruption within nations, societies, and cultures not to destroy His people, but to bring about their freedom and restoration.
We see this clearly in the Old Testament when God delivered the Israelites from Egyptian bondage, demonstrating His sovereign power over both people and nations (see Book of Exodus).
The psalmist declares in Book of Psalms 46:10:
“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
The command “Be still” comes from the Hebrew word harpu, rooted in rapha. This word carries a rich range of meanings, including cease, relax, let go, leave, become helpless, and forsake. What stands out most powerfully is this idea:
Let it go.
God is not merely telling us to pause or remain quiet. He is calling us to release control. To stop striving. To loosen our grip on outcomes. To surrender our worries, fears, and frustrations into His capable hands.
“Be still” is an invitation to trust.
It is God saying:
Stop fighting battles you cannot win on your own.
Release what is weighing you down.
Step back and allow Me to be God.
So as we face our earthly problems whether personal, familial, or societal; perhaps the spiritual posture God desires is simple surrender.
Be still.
Let it go.
Let God.
Faith requires us to believe that God has the power, the wisdom, and the presence to resolve what we cannot. When we truly let go, we make room for God to move.
Be Still...Let it go…Let God.
