In United States of America searching for real love online is a $3 billion industry. There are over 1,500 dating apps and online sites. Aprroximately 15% of Americans surveyed stated they have used a dating site, that is nearly 50 million people. That is alot of people and money being spent on searching for real love. Love in this sense must be an extremely important virtue that so many people are in search of it and it fuels a $3 billion industry. It's effects from this perspective are short term and not long lasting. Being in search of real love is being in search of a love that will last. Love is an essential virtue, it is a virtue that is God given, and it is a virtue that binds human relationships. What does God say about Love? In the Bible there are 442 references to Love. It is an important attribute of God. If we consider for a moment 15% of our nation is in search of it and they are fueling a $3 billion industry. The question is are they in search of Love in the wrong place? Ultimately God is our creator and everything we are is an extension of Him. God is Love. 1 John 4:16 states, "And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him." Considering this scripture if we are in search of Love shouldn't we consider searching for God first? Absolutely, God is our ultimate Love. He first loved us and he has demonstrated his love for us. John 3:16 states, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." So we have to love God but we also have to love others. John 13:34-35 states, "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. [35] By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." We are commanded by Jesus to love one another if we are to be called followers of Christ.
So ultimately if we are in search of love we ought be in search of God first. A relationship with God the real source of love will be long lasting in fact it will be eternal. Searching for love? Search for God first! God is Real Love!
